Too broke to care By Rex Sposier Broke as a broken heart, I reach into empty pockets hoping to find more than hair and lent before my final decision. Lady luck hasn't been on my side all week and something has to break. "Damn!!", again, nothing to grasp, nothing to grip, nothing to grope. Why am I broke? I make 40 bucks an hour watching machines all day,... I have no kids,... never been maried,... I'm clueless. It cant be the gambling , its only once a week and i do good,... sometimes better. Tonight I gotta get something, can't keep going home like this. "Hit Me!!", you cold hearted son-of-a-gun. Give me back the freedom you stole. "I'm all in guys, deal with it", like everything else in life. Just let me live mine NOW! Nervously, I reach back into my empty pocket, searching for lent to grip. "Make your move guys, I ain't gone yet!", not until I get what's mine. Finally, I've made my decision. If things go as planned, I should be good for the next 3 days till payday. "YES!!", you gutless bastards, "I WIN!!" A break, I finally get a break! "I'll be leaving now, twas fun playing", and more fun when I cash these chips in. "Please, all 20 dollar bills", don't have time to break hundreds where I'm going. "Thank you young lady and can you call valet, tell them to bring my car around for the tip", and they better be expedient without mistakes or I'll sue this place. "Yes, it's Mr Leafnote and make haste", or I'll buy burgers with their tip. Too anxious to stand around counters so I rushed outside expecting valet to pull up with my car. Instead, an old friend quietly sits on a bench near the building staring into the night sky. I try to slip away unseen with all my earnings. She's not gonna ruin my streak now, "Where the HELL is valet!" If she sees me, I'm done. She'll know more than I want her to know. I'd have to shake her somehow. "Here, here, take it and get out,...
